Building Personal Brand by Gary Vaynerchuk

So for today, I thought I’d jump from the ultra-conservative Eben Pagan to the loud and outrageous Gary Vaynerchuk. Now, if you’ve ever watched a YouTube clip of Vaynerchuk or even his ever popular “Wine Library TV” program, then you’ll know exactly what I mean by loud and outrageous. But, don’t let appearances fool you, because Vaynerchuk is as successful as they come in the online world, and precisely why I want to share with you some of his views on building personal brand within the social media landscape.

I’ve written about Perry Belcher and his views on Social Media and Vaynerchuk’s attitude towards it aren’t all that different. If you have a product or service that you truly believe can be of benefit to people, then Vaynerchuk advises you focus on two things:

1. Community
2. Content

In today’s internet-crazy world, it’s essential you utilize social media to connect with your audience. However, just as importantly you need to assess who you are as a person because you want to appear authentic and sincere to your audience or community. Even if you have unbelievable content, if people sense in the slightest that you’re being fake or self-serving, then you’ve more than likely lost them forever. As Vaynerchuk says, “Content is King, but marketing is Queen, and the Queen runs the household”.

It’s important to note, consumers are gathering information and content less and less frequently offline, instead preferring to acquire it online. So, in order to better position yourself Vaynerchuk suggest you become a part of the conversation in your niche.

To do this, you’ll need to visit as many blogs as you can and drop a line (leaving your name and not your URL). Also, set up a fan page on Facebook for your content, start a Twitter following. The key here is, to utilize as many vehicles as possible to communicate with your prospects and get your name and content out there.

Some other recommended strategies Vaynerchuk shares are:

- 80/20 Rule – giving 80% to every relationship
- Be consistent in your brand image and make it easy for people to find you
